Andrew Baggarly reported the Giants will pay Leake's entire salary.

Leake took to Twitter to thank the Reds organization, describing the move as "A bittersweet moment. I am extremely thankful to reds organization and will miss teammates, coaches, ballpark folks and most of all the fans."

Adam Duvall is tearing up Triple-A with 26 home runs and 79 RBI, but he'll likely be more of a bench player in Cincinnati unless the Reds ship either Joey Votto or Todd Frazier out of town.

Keury Mella, on the other hand, could potentially be a big loss for the Giants down the road. He was the team's fourth-best prospect before the season, according to Baseball America. In 16 High-A starts, Mella is 5-3 with a 3.31 earned run average.

Still, San Francisco didn't necessarily pay a premium for a proven MLB starter.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman included why this deal could make so much sense for the Giants:

Leake is 9-5 in 2015 with a 3.56 ERA on a Reds team that sits in fourth place in the National League Central, 18 games behind the the division-leading St. Louis Cardinals and 9.5 games back in the NL wild card.

The right-hander is inked to only a one-year deal for $9.78 million in 2015, according to Spotrac.

In his sixth season in the majors, Leake has a career record of 62-47 with a 3.87 ERA, averaging 6.1 strikeouts per nine innings in his career. He struck out a career-high 164 batters last season despite an 11-13 record.

FanGraphs provided a look at his numbers to date and what he could potentially do for the rest of the season:

San Francisco is acquiring a solid third starter who is capable of eating innings. Leake's inconsistency, however, prevents him from becoming a potential ace. At 27 years old, it seems unlikely he'll become a vastly different pitcher over the next few seasons.

Leake has five starts under his belt so far this season in which he did not give up a run, but in four other starts, he has given up five or more.

If he does find some consistency, the Giants' rotation just stole a solid starter.
