Tom Brady Reflects on Richard Sherman's 'U Mad, Bro?' Exchange on Video

Julia StumbaughSep 11, 2025

Tom Brady is still reflecting on his viral postgame interaction with Richard Sherman more than a decade after he and the former Seattle Seahawks cornerback clashed at CenturyLink Field.

After the Seahawks claimed a 24-23 victory over Brady and the visiting Patriots in Week 6 of the 2012 season, Sherman famously came up to Brady and asked, "U mad, bro?"

"It was Russ Wilson's first year as starting quarterback, and they had the Legion of Boom, a young Richard Sherman," Brady said when recounting the game in an interview aired Thursday by NFL on Fox. "I threw, I think, two interceptions that day.

"That was the 'U mad, bro?' game. Sherm, what was up with that? I wasn't even talking any smack to you. You came up to me after the game. You were talking smack the whole game. I barely remember that game."

Brady continued, "You know what? Actually, becoming your teammate, Sherm, I realized how much I liked you And at the moment, I kept looking at you: 'What are you talking about, man? Just stay out of my huddle, and get back in your huddle.'

"But, to your credit, you, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Brandan Browner, you guys got the job done."

Sherman previously said in 2013 that it had been Brady, not him, who had started the trash talking that led up to the viral moment.

"Well, Tom Brady is a little more talkative on the field than a lot of people may be led to believe," Sherman said when asked what led up to the incident on a November 2013 episode of NFL on Fox. "He's incredibly competitive. He's a fantastic leader, he's a fantastic ball player, I'll tell you right here. But he does have his fair share."

"He came up to me and Earl during TV timeouts. That's when the TV isn't on anybody, nobody sees anything. And we're standing there, talking about, I think we're game-planning, talking about broad concepts. And he comes up, like, 'So, who are you guys?'"

Sherman continued, "We go back and forth for a little while. He looks up at the scoreboard, looks back at us. He's like, 'Come see me after this win.' So, after the game, they didn't win, but I still came and saw him, as I promised. And everybody got mad at me."

Both players seemed to be over the incident by the time they reunited as teammates with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021.

"Me and Tom have had a great relationship over the years," Sherman said ahead of Week 4 of the 2021 season. "I think people get confused, on the field stuff. But we've texted over the years and had a really cool relationship. I always thought it would be really cool to play together if we had the opportunity, and it's crazy how things shake out."

Sherman and Brady have both pursued media careers following their respective retirements from the NFL. Brady began his second year in the Fox Sports booth by calling the Washington Commanders' Week 1 win over the New York Giants.
