7 NFL Trades That Would Be Win-Win Moves amid Tyreek Hill Trade Rumors
We're only in the second week of the NFL season, but it's never too early for trade activity. Earlier this week, the Jacksonville Jaguars sent running back Tank Bigsby to the Philadelphia Eagles. More recently, teams have reportedly been trying to pry wideout Tyreek Hill away from the Miami Dolphins.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Dolphins have received trade calls on Hill but are not interested in moving him. It's not a stretch, though, to think that they should .
There's a very good chance that, if Miami's season goes south quickly, the Dolphins will soon be rebuilding without head coach Mike McDaniel and, possibly, without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Getting something in return for Hill, a potential 2206 cap casualty, could help Miami execute a rare win-win trade.
Hill isn't the only player who could be involved in a win-win early-season trade either. Here are seven hypothetical deals that would make sense for all parties involved.
Chiefs Trade for WR Tyreek Hill

Chiefs Get: WR Tyreek Hill
Dolphins Get: Conditional 2026 3rd-Round Pick
The Dolphins may not be eager to give up on their season and/or trade Hill. However, that stance could change very quickly, especially if Miami falls to the New England Patriots in Week 2.
The Dolphins looked terrible in Week 1, and if they can't push for the playoffs this season, they're probably never doing it with Hill again. The 31-year-old is signed through 2026, but Miami could save $36.3 million in cap space by releasing him in the spring.
The Kansas City Chiefs, meanwhile, desperately need receiver help with Rashee Rice suspended and Xavier Worthy sidelined by a shoulder injury. Hill began his career in Kansas City and would be a logical target for the receiver-needy Chiefs.
Miami can expect any trade package to be conditional, dependent on performance and availability. It's been a couple of years since we've seen him play at an elite level, and Hill could potentially face league discipline.
According to TMZ, Hill's ex-wife, Keeta Vaccaro, has accused Hill in court filings of domestic violence. NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy told reporters on Wednesday that the league is reviewing the allegations.
Cowboys Trade for CB Greg Newsome II

Cowboys Get: CB Greg Newsome II
Browns Get: 2026 5th-Round Pick, 2027 3rd-Round Pick
Though they traded away star pass-rusher Micah Parsons, the Dallas Cowboys have given no indication that they're going to treat 2025 as a rebuilding year. If they're going to stay in the NFC hunt, however, they may need to add more defenders than Kenny Clark.
Dallas' defense put up a fight against the Eagles' passing attack in Week 1. However, its secondary has already suffered a blow. According to ESPN's Todd Archer, cornerback DaRon Bland could miss multiple weeks with a foot injury he suffered during a Monday practice.
Trading for Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II could give the Cowboys exactly the sort of cornerback depth they need. The 25-year-old is coming off of a fantastic game against the Cincinnati Bengals (68.7 opposing passer rating) and has shown the ability to play on the perimeter or in the slot.
Dallas would likely want to extend Newsome, who is an impending 2026 free agent, but he, Bland and Trevon Diggs would give the Cowboys an elite cornerback room long-term.
This deal would allow the Browns to cash in a player they may not be able to keep after this season for draft capital they may desperately need in 2026. Cleveland just blew a winnable Week 1 game and has daunting matchups with the Baltimore Ravens, Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers up next.
There's a real chance that the Browns are looking ahead toward the draft by midseason.
Lions Trade for G Joel Bitonio

Lions Get: G Joel Bitonio
Browns Get: 2026 4th-Round Pick, WR Dominic Lovett
A lot went wrong for the Detroit Lions in Week 1, but their poor offensive line play was the most glaring issue. The Lions had issues at guard, specifically, following two big offseason departures.
The Lions let right guard Kevin Zeitler depart in free agency. They also moved left guard Graham Glasgow to center following Frank Ragnow's retirement.
Rookie second-round pick Tate Ratledge is in at right guard and will likely be given time to develop. However, Detroit may want to consider replacing left guard Christian Mahogany, who was graded 64th among 78 guards in pass blocking last week by Pro Football Focus.
If the Browns are willing to sell off good players in anticipation of a full-on rebuild, the Lions should see if guard Joel Bitonio is available. The seven-time Pro Bowler will turn 34 next month but remains a fantastic interior blocker—PFF graded him first overall among guards in Week 1.
To get Bitonio, the Lions could offer a fourth-round pick and rookie receiver Dominic Lovett.
A player of Bitonio's caliber would usually cost more than a high Day 3 selection and a rookie seventh-round draft pick. However, Cleveland badly needs receiver depth, and Bitonio is an impending 2026 free agent who could potentially retire after this season.
49ers Trade for TE Austin Hooper

49ers Get: TE Austin Hooper
Patriots Get: DL Yetur Gross-Matos
If the San Francisco 49ers were hoping to quickly turn the page on their 2024 injury woes, they were mistaken. In addition to battling multiple injuries in the receiver room, the 49ers just placed star tight end George Kittle on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. This means he'll miss at least four games.
San Francisco did see tight end Jake Tonges haul in three passes, including a touchdown, last week. However, they could use another pass-catcher at the position—especially with quarterback Brock Purdy also set to miss time.
In this hypothetical scenario, the 49ers call the New England Patriots about backup tight end Austin Hooper. The 30-year-old saw just a single reception in Week 1 but caught 45 passes for 476 yards and three touchdowns last season.
Hooper also played under 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan during his rookie season with the Atlanta Falcons. He has a modest $2 million base salary that would be reasonable for a short-term rental.
To make this a deal that also benefits the Patriots, the 49ers could offer defensive lineman Yetur Gross-Matos in a trade. He's set to be a free agent in the spring and played just 17 defensive snaps in San Francisco's season opener. However, he could help bolster a Patriots defense that surrendered 389 yards in Week 1.
Titans Trade for OT Wanya Morris

Titans Get: OT Wanya Morris
Chiefs Get: 2026 7th-Round Pick, DB Mike Brown
The Tennessee Titans aren't expected to contend this season, but this is still a critical season for them. Their 2025 campaign will be all about developing and protecting rookie first overall pick Cam Ward.
Tennessee didn't do a great job with the latter part of the equation in Week 1, as Ward was sacked six times. Right tackle J.C. Latham also aggravated a hip injury in the game—one he battled during the preseason. He didn't play well either, and was responsible for a penalty and a sack allowed, according to Pro Football Focus.
With Latham still sidelined in practice this week, Tennessee would be wise to consider adding depth at right tackle. Kansas City Chiefs backup Wanya Morris would be a sensible trade target.
Morris started 11 games last season. Though he primarily played left tackle in 2024, he played both tackle positions in college. Now, he's a pure depth player behind free-agent addition and swing tackle Jaylon Moore.
Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi was Kansas City's assistant GM when Morris was drafted in 2023.
To make this an enticing deal for Kansas City, the Titans could include backup safety Mike Brown in a deal. The Chiefs lack safety depth and just coughed up 304 passing yards in their season-opener.
Cowboys Trade for Edge Jaelan Phillips

Cowboys Get: Edge Jaelan Phillips
Dolphins Get: 2026 4th-Round Pick
Hill isn't the only player the Dolphins could look to unload ahead of a potential 2026 rebuild. Pass-rusher Jaelan Phillips is another logical trade candidate if Miami decides it can't contend this year.
Phillips showed promise early in his career, logging 22 sacks over his first three seasons. However, he suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in 2023 and a season-ending knee injury in 2024.
With Phillips set to be a free agent in 2026, Miami likely has a short window in which to get something in return.
The Cowboys, meanwhile, could use added help on the edge after trading away Parsons. Phillips certainly wouldn't replace Parsons' skill set, but he'd give Dallas another promising player to go with Dante Fowler Jr., Sam Williams, Marshawn Kneeland and rookie Donovan Ezeiruaku.
Should Phillips return to pre-injury form, he could even become a long-term piece of the Cowboys' pass-rushing puzzle. Miami would get valuable draft capital with which to rebuild—and possibly chase a new quarterback—in the 2026 draft.
49ers Trade for QB Kirk Cousins
7 of 7.jpg)
49ers Get: QB Kirk Cousins
Falcons Get: Edge Bryce Huff, Conditional 2026 5th-Round Pick
The Atlanta Falcons have their quarterback in Michael Penix Jr. and are reportedly open to moving backup Kirk Cousins, which would save $27.5 million in cap space.
"The Falcons would be willing to trade Cousins during the season, but their asking price is considered high by many around the league, according to a league source," The Athletic's Josh Kendall wrote on Wednesday.
The potential issue is that Cousins' contract includes a no-trade clause, and there may not be many teams for which he'd waive it. The San Francisco 49ers, however, might be one of them.
This hypothetical trade would reunite Cousins with Kyle Shanahan, potentially giving the QB a prime opportunity to revitalize his NFL stock. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, 49ers starter Brock Purdy is expected to miss between two and five weeks with toe and shoulder injuries.
Shanahan will turn to Mac Jones for Week 2, but if he flounders—and Purdy is trending toward the longer end of the recovery estimate—Cousins could be just the QB to step in and salvage San Francisco's season.
During the offseason, the 49ers traded a conditional 5th-round pick that can become a 4th-rounder based on performance to the Eagles for pass-rusher Bryce Huff. They could flip Huff and a fourth- or fifth-round pick—whichever ends up not going to Philly—to Atlanta for Cousins.
San Francisco would get a spot-starter, while the Falcons would get cap relief, draft capital and pass-rushing depth.
