Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown Says 'We All Booing' Ben Johnson in Return with Bears

Timothy RappSep 10, 2025

Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown doesn't want his former offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, to receive a warm welcome when he returns to Detroit in Week 2 as the head coach of the Chicago Bears.

"Week 2 is going to be so crazy. I promise you. It's going to be so electric," he said on his "St. Brown Podcast." "But as soon as Ben (Johnson) walks in there, we're booing him. I don't give a f--k. We all booing him."

"Yeah, [Johnson] said it's going to be lit, I'm not going to lie," Bears wideout Rome Odunze, a guest on the podcast, replied. "And I'm here for it."

While St. Brown doesn't want Lions' fans rolling out the red carpet for Johnson in his return, his comments on Tuesday were more about keeping the NFC North rivalry spicy and not indicative of any animosity toward his former offensive coordinator.

"Obviously, I love Ben. One of my favorite coaches that I've ever had, I would say for sure," he said back in January after Johnson took the Chicago job. "He's smart, he's one of the hardest working coaches that I've been around. But obviously, I would want to have him in Detroit forever, but that's not the reality of things. Other teams are going to approach him. He's going to want to—I feel like every coach, not every coach, but a lot of coaches want to be a head coach at one point in their lives if they can. This is the best opportunity, I think, for him to leave. If he didn't leave this year, I feel like teams would say, 'Oh, what's wrong with him?' He had the most points. We had the highest-scoring offense in the league. We lost early, unfortunately, but I feel like this was the year for him to leave and he took it. So I don't blame him."

Both the Lions and Bears are seeking their first win of the season after in-division losses in Week 1.
