Aryna Sabalenka Beats Amanda Anisimova to Win 2025 US Open Women's Final Bracket

Paul KasabianSep 6, 2025

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka is now a four-time Grand Slam singles champion after winning her second consecutive U.S. Open on Saturday by defeating No. 8 seed Amanda Anisimova in straight sets—6-3, 7-6 (3)—at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens.

Sabalenka won a tense first set after falling down a break, 3-2.

However, Sabalenka proceeded to win the next four games. Not only that, but Sabalenka won eight of nine points on Anisimova's serve to break her twice down the stretch.

That comeback left Anisimova in a tough spot, as Sabalenka has proved tough to beat when up a set at the U.S. Open.

Saturday wasn't any different.

Sabalenka nearly broke Anisimova in the first game of the second set, forcing deuce three times. She did break Anisimova the next time around to take a 2-1 lead.

Anisimova later got a break back, igniting the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd and tying the second set at three.

However, the World No. 1 was simply too strong on this day, although it was a tough battle in the end.

Sabalenka got a break back to go up 4-3 and then later served for the match for the victory up 5-4. She had a chance to go up 40-30 in the game, but a volley attempt went into the net.

Anisimova soon found new life, breaking Sabalenka and tying the game at five.

Both players then held serve, pushing the set to a tiebreaker, where Sabalenka has historically been dominant.

Once there, it was all Sabalenka, who scored five straight points to go up 5-1 en route to winning 7-3.

The 27-year-old Sabalenka won back-to-back Australian Opens in 2023 and 2024. She became a U.S. Open champion last year before defending her title this season. Sabalenka is the first champion to win back-to-back U.S. Open titles (women's or men's) since Serena Williams, who won three straight from 2012-2014.

Overall, Sabalenka has enjoyed an incredible run in Grand Slams since the 2023 Australian Open. She has played in 11 majors since that tournament, making 10 semifinals and seven finals, winning four.

This year, Sabalenka made the Australian Open and French Open finals. She lost both, but the third time in a 2025 major was the charm.

Sabalenka largely cruised through the first five rounds, winning the first four matches in straight sets before advancing to the semifinal via walkover against Marketa Vondrousova.

Jessica Pegula, the No. 4 seed, gave Sabalenka a great test in the semifinal though, winning the first set 6-4. However, Sabalenka fought back, earning two early breaks in the second (6-3) and third sets (6-4) to win the match.

Sabalenka followed that up with a win over Anisimova. Sabalenka has won 167 matches while losing just 38 over her past three seasons, per Tennis Abstract. She's won four titles in 2025, notably taking down tournaments in Madrid and Miami as well.

As for Anisimova, this is undoubtedly a tough loss, but it was still a great year and run. She earned her first-ever WTA 1000 title at the Qatar Open in February and reached the Wimbledon final.

Anisimova was on the wrong end of a double bagel there against Iga Świątek, but she responded by defeating her in the U.S. Open quarterfinals in straight sets. Anisimova then took down four-time Grand Slam singles champion Naomi Osaka in the semifinals.
