Angel Reese Suspended for 1st Half of Sky's Game vs. Aces for 'Detrimental' Comments

Andrew PetersSep 5, 2025

After making comments calling out her team, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has been suspended for the first half of Sunday's matchup against the Las Vegas Aces.

The team announced the decision on social media on Friday, calling Reese's comments "detrimental."

Sky head coach Tyler Marsh told reporters Friday that Reese's first-half suspension was an "organizational decision" and it came from the "top down," per ESPN's Alexa Philippou.

"Just going to handle internally, and that's kind of what it's been," Marsh said.

Reese will already serve a one-game suspension for Friday's matchup against the Indiana Fever after picking up her eighth technical foul of the season on Wednesday.

Reese, who is only in her second season in the WNBA, recently told the Chicago Tribune's Julia Poe that she's ready to see some changes after more struggles for the Sky this season.

"I'm not settling for the same s--t we did this year," she said. "We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That's a non-negotiable for me.

"I'm willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that's what I'm going to do this offseason. So it's going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can't settle for what we have this year."

In the same interview, she hinted at the possibility of asking out of Chicago if things don't improve soon.

"I'd like to be here for my career, but if things don't pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what's best for me," she said. "But while I am here, I'm going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can."

Reese later said she apologized to her teammates and said the comments were "taken out of context."

"I don't think I'm frustrated, I probably am frustrated at myself right now," Reese said Wednesday. "I think the language is taken out of context and I really didn't intentionally mean to put down my teammates because they've been through this with me throughout the whole year... I want to apologize to my teammates, which I already have about the article."

Year 2 for Reese hasn't gone the way she would have hoped. While she's had a decent year individually, putting up 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds per game, the Sky have been eliminated from postseason contention at 10-30 on the season.

The Sky have seen plenty of stars leave over the years due to a lack of success and a lack of commitment to a winning roster from ownership. Only time will tell if Reese will follow a similar route.
