Raiders' Jakobi Meyers Addresses Trade Request Before Season, 'I Asked, They Said No'

Zach BacharSep 3, 2025

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers detailed his brief conversation with the team following his trade request heading into the 2025 season.

"I asked, they said no," Meyers told reporters Wednesday (h/t Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk). "That's where that stopped. I'm just going to keep doing my job until something shakes out either way. I don't know which way it's going to go, but I'll be ready for whatever."

Meyers requested a trade from the Raiders on Aug. 25 after both sides couldn't agree on a new contract, but he's still on Las Vegas' roster with its season-opener approaching.

The team never appeared to give serious consideration to parting ways with the wideout, as ESPN's Adam Schefter later reported that the Raiders had no intention of moving Meyers and turned down a trade offer for him.

The 28-year-old has a base salary of $10.5 million and a cap hit of $14.97 million for the 2025 season before he's set to hit free agency in 2026.

Despite the lack of traction in negotiations, Meyers was open to potentially working on a deal during the regular season.

"They are looking at me to see if they want me here. I'm looking at them to see if I want to be around them," Meyers said, per ESPN's Ryan McFadden. "We are all kind of doing the same thing, and we're gonna see how it plays out."

It's understandable that the Raiders weren't willing to trade the receiver, as he wrapped up an impressive 2024 campaign. Meyers hauled in a career-high 87 receptions for 1,027 yards, finding the end zone four times.

He's also a familiar face on a Las Vegas offense that will feature several key contributors that weren't with the team in 2024 including quarterback Geno Smith, running back Ashton Jeanty and wideout Amari Cooper.

If Meyers starts the season strong, it could result in the Raiders engaging with him in contract discussions once again and potentially finding common ground on a long-term pact.
