It's Week 1, and that means fantasy managers are hitting peak-excitement levels.

All the hard work from draft season is about to pay off as teams face off for the first time.

The thing is, drafting a solid team is just one step in the quest for fantasy glory. In-season management is every bit as important—if not more so. Grabbing contributors off the waiver wire, swinging a big trade or two and setting a weekly lineup that maximizes a team's potential.

That last part is why we're here. Every week, we'll be offering up position-by-position PPR rankings, players set for big things or a down week, "sleeper" calls and a ranking of the top 100 players overall.

Sure, we think we know some things about who will have a stout pass defense in 2025 and who can't cover a bed with a sheet, but the first few weeks of a new season always brings surprises.

Players to Watch in Week 1

Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at ATL) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,600]

Mayfield threw for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns on the way to a QB3 fantasy finish last year and opens the season against an Atlanta defense that allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks a year ago.

Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers (at JAC) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,700]

Young played well down the stretch last year, and he has a solid shot to open the 2025 season strong—the Jacksonville Jaguars allowed a league-high 257.4 passing yards per game last year.

Players to Avoid in Week 1

Jared Goff, Detroit Lions (at GB) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,500]

Goff was undervalued in fantasy drafts over the summer, but he could get off to a slow start in 2025. The Packers were sixth in the NFL in total defense in 2024 and surrendered the third-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks.

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,900]

There's a reason why Mahomes has such a (relatively) low DFS price tag in Week 1: The Chargers were seventh in the NFL against the pass last season and the trip to Brazil could make for a choppy game.

Sleeper

Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars (vs. CAR) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,300]

Sunday's meeting between the Jaguars and Panthers may not be a marquee matchup, but it has sneaky shootout potential. Jacksonville and Carolina fielded the two worst defenses in the league a year ago.

Running Backs

Week 1 is the easiest week of the season for fantasy managers at the running back position. For the most part, there are no injuries to contend with and no underperforming stars to consider sitting.

If your roster has clear starters, use them. For "Zero RB" drafters, be cautious with secondary options and watch injury updates

Players to Watch in Week 1

Chuba Hubbard, Carolina Panthers (at JAC) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,000]

Yes, we're still hammering away at the Panthers-Jaguars game. Hubbard was quietly eighth in the league in rushing yards in 2024, and the Jags were atrocious against the run last year, allowing 132.6 yards per game on the ground.

Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints (vs. ARI) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,200]

It's going to be a tough year for a Saints team that is a significant underdog at home to a mediocre Cardinals. But Kamara is going to see the ball a lot in Week 1, and Arizona allowed the eighth-most PPR points to running backs last season.

Players to Avoid in Week 1

James Cook, Buffalo Bills (vs. BAL) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,200]

Cook had an outstanding 2024 season, tying for the league lead with 16 touchdowns on the ground. But the sledding will be tough Sunday night, as the Ravens barely allowed 80 rushing yards per game in 2024.

D'Andre Swift, Chicago Bears (vs. MIN) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,900]

Swift's fantasy prospects were met with more than a little skepticism over the summer, and he draws a tough matchup out of the gate. The Vikings were awful against the pass a year ago, but they led the NFC in run defense.

Sleeper

Tank Bigsby, Jacksonville Jaguars (vs. CAR) [DraftKings DFS Value: $4,600]

The Jacksonville backfield is a muddled mess, but it's not as bad as the Panthers' run defense. Carolina was dead-last in the league against the run in 2024, surrendering almost 180 yards per contest.

Wide Receivers

Another theme in Week 1 is to have patience. Passing games may take time to get in rhythm early in the season.

Could there be teams with aerial attacks that roll into Week 1 humming like it's Halloween? Sure, but it's equally likely teams that barely played their starters in the preseason will take some time to get in gear.

Don't overreact to a slow start from star receivers.

Players to Watch in Week 1

D.J. Moore, Chicago Bears (vs. MIN) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,100]

Moore was a top-15 fantasy receiver last year despite some inconsistent QB play in Chicago, and the 28-year-old opens the 2025 campaign at home against a Vikings team that led the league in PPR points given up to wideouts in 2024.

Khalil Shakir, Buffalo Bills (vs. BAL) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,600]

The Bills aren't going to have an easy go of it on the ground against the Ravens, but Baltimore's pass defense is another story. Only the Jacksonville Jaguars allowed more passing yards per game last season.

Players to Avoid in Week 1

Nico Collins, Houston Texans (at LAR) [DraftKings DFS Value: $7,400]

Collins was viewed as a top-five fantasy wideout in some circles over the summer. However, Houston's woeful offensive line could be a real problem in 2025, and the Rams were solid against the pass last season.

DK Metcalf, Pittsburgh Steelers (at NYJ) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,900]

Metcalf is probably going to be peppered with targets this season. However, the two-time Pro Bowler and Aaron Rodgers didn't play at all in the preseason, and Metcalf is going to see a lot of Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner on Sunday.

Sleeper

Emeka Egbuka, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at ATL) [DraftKings DFS Value: $4,600]

The rookie first-rounder from Ohio State has drawn raves all summer. He's going to open the season as the Buccaneers' No. 2 receiver, and the Falcons gave up the fourth-most PPR points to wide receivers in 2024.

Tight Ends

Travis Kelce

The tight end position is unpredictable this year, making it vital to monitor breakout candidates weekly.

There's a clear "Big 3" at the top, followed by a deep group of possible breakouts.

Monitor who emerges early, but don't expect to identify the next star after just one game.

Players to Watch in Week 1

The Browns are not expected to be a great team this season, but they will be playing from behind a lot—beginning this week against a Bengals squad that allowed the most PPR points to tight ends last season.

Kyle Pitts Sr., Atlanta Falcons (vs. TB) [DraftKings DFS Value: $4,300]

It's Kyle Pitts season right out of the gate. The Buccaneers were kind to opposing tight ends a season ago, giving up the eighth-most fantasy points to the position.

Players to Avoid in Week 1

Evan Engram, Denver Broncos (vs. TEN) [DraftKings DFS Value: $4,500]

Engram was a personal favorite over the summer, but this game could get out of hand. The Titans were 29th in PPR points surrendered to TEs last season.

Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs (at LAC) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,200]

The days of Kelce dominating his position in fantasy football are long over, and he starts what may be his last season with a trip to Brazil to face a Chargers team that was a bottom-five fantasy matchup for tight ends in 2024.

Sleeper

Hunter Henry, New England Patriots (vs. LV) [DraftKings DFS Value: $3,900]

Henry wasn't on anyone's breakout list in 2025, but New England's revamped pass-catching corps features as many questions as answers. Meanwhile, the Raiders gave up over 15.5 PPR points per game to tight ends last year.

Units to Watch in Week 1

Arizona Cardinals Defense (at NO) [DraftKings DFS Value: 3,500]

Expect this to be a running theme in this year's Big Board: Targeting the Saints with fantasy defenses. If Spencer Rattler is the best quarterback on that roster, they are doomed.

Cam Little, Jacksonville Jaguars (vs. CAR)

Little blasted a 70-yard field goal in the preseason, and the Jaguars host a Panthers team that allowed the most fantasy points to opposing kickers in 2024.

Units to Avoid in Week 1

Baltimore Ravens Defense (at BUF) [DraftKings DFS Value: $3,000]

If you drafted the Ravens, go ahead and start them on Sunday night. But odds are good it's going to be a light week—the Bills essentially allowed nothing to opposing fantasy defenses last season.

Brandon Aubrey, Dallas Cowboys (at PHI)

Aubrey is arguably the NFL's best kicker, and the Dallas offense is going to have to carry the team this year. But the Eagles were a rotten fantasy matchup for kickers last year—only the Bills gave up fewer points to the position.

Sleeper

Las Vegas Raiders Defense (at NE) [DraftKings DFS Value: $2,600]

The Raiders were not a good defensive football team in 2024, and the Patriots are supposed to be a much better offensive squad in 2025. But given all the changes on both teams, this could be a choppy, low-scoring affair.
