Following the win, No. 7 Djokovic will take on No. 4 Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals. A win would give him a matchup against either No. 4 Carlos Alcaraz or No. 20 Jiri Lehecka.

The win marks Djokovic's ninth season reaching all four grand slam quarterfinals, giving him a new record.

While this year in tennis has mostly been dominated by young stars Alcaraz and Janik Sinner, the 38-year-old Djokovic has managed to stay relevant, reaching the semifinals in the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon.

At the Australian Open early this year, he got past Alcaraz in the quarterfinal but was forced to retire in his semifinal match against Alexander Zverev because of an injury after the first set.

He reached his 51st major semifinal at the French Open, but lost to Sinner in the semifinal. Djokovic fell to Sinner again at Wimbledon. After the loss, he hinted that his retirement could be fast approaching, saying he'll play at Wimbledon "at least one more time."

Considering his age and the fact that he's dealt with injuries, Djokovic has had a strong season. Still, he's looking to extend his streak of playing in at least one grand slam final every year since 2018 and will need to be at his best moving forward to keep that streak alive.
