Novak Djokovic Expects to Play Wimbledon 'At Least 1 More Time' After Loss to Sinner

Mike ChiariJul 11, 2025

Tennis fans haven't seen the last of Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon based on his comments following a semifinal loss to world No. 1 Jannik Sinner at the All England Club in London on Friday.

According to longtime tennis journalist Christopher Clarey, Djokovic said after his 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 defeat that he plans to return to Wimbledon "at least one more time."

Per Clarey, the 38-year-old Djokovic added, "I'm just trying to make the maximum out of what I have left."

Given his age, Djokovic's retirement has become a constant topic of discussion and speculation among fans and analysts over the past couple of years.

The Serbian superstar is not far removed from being the unquestioned dominant force in men's tennis, as he won three of the four Grand Slam tournaments in both 2021 and 2023.

However, Djoker has now gone seven straight Grand Slams without a title, and he has reached only one final during that stretch.

During the drought, Sinner has eliminated Djokovic three times and Carlos Alcaraz has eliminated him once, which has seemingly signaled the changing of the guard in men's tennis.

Sinner and Alcaraz have eight Grand Slam singles titles between them, and they have combined to win each of the past Grand Slams. They will make it seven in a row on Sunday since Sinner and Alcaraz are set to meet in the 2025 Wimbledon final.

There is now an unquestioned "Big Two" in men's tennis, and Djokovic is the last man standing when it comes to the group known as the "Big Four," as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray have all retired.

Djokovic proved to be the most successful player among them, winning 24 Grand Slams, compared to 22 for Nadal, 20 for Federer and three for Murray.

Djoker also won singles gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, meaning there is nothing left for him to accomplish in the sport.

He may not be at the same level as Sinner and Alcaraz currently are, but Djokovic is still among the best, having reached the semifinals or better at a Grand Slam five times over the past two years.

That means it is still possible for Djokovic to add to his Grand Slam title total for as long as he continues to play, but there may not be many opportunities left.
