Micah Parsons Says He 'Never Wanted This Chapter to End' After Cowboys-Packers Trade

Zach BacharAug 28, 2025

Star pass-rusher Micah Parsons discussed the end of his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys after he was traded to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday.

"I never wanted this chapter to end, but not everything was in my control," Parsons wrote as part of a statement posted on X. "My heart has always been here, and still is. Through it all, I never made any demands. I never asked for anything more than fairness. I only asked that the person I trust to negotiate my contract be part of the process."

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cowboys sent Parsons to the Packers in exchange for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks.

The Packers also gave Parsons a massive four-year contract worth $188 million immediately following the trade, per Schefter. The deal includes $120 million guaranteed.

Parsons was set to enter free agency in 2026, officially requesting a trade from Dallas on Aug. 1 and holding in during training camp after long-term extension negotiations with the team broke down.

The next day, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that the team wasn't interested in parting ways with Parsons and the request to be moved was "just a part of negotiation" (via Tommy Yarrish of the team's official website).

Shefter reported earlier on Thursday that Dallas was "willing to at least listen" to trade proposals from other front offices, though.

Jones and Parsons spoke about an extension in March and agreed to some terms of a possible deal, but the four-time Pro Bowler wanted to get his agent involved before finalizing a contract, per Yarrish. The Cowboys ultimately did not contact his representatives.

Now, Parsons is heading to Green Bay.

He'll immediately become the top player on the Packers' defensive front after amassing at least 12 sacks in each of his four years in the NFL. Parsons also has 177 pressures, 112 quarterback hits, 63 tackles for loss and nine forced fumbles under his belt.
