Bears' Caleb Williams Reveals He 'Yells out His Cadence While Driving in His Car'
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is taking a unique approach to preparing for the 2025 season.
As part of his continued adjustment to the new offensive system implemented by Bears first-year head coach Ben Johnson, Williams revealed to ESPN's Courtney Cronin that he "listens to voice recordings of his playcalls at the line of scrimmage and yells out his cadence while driving in his car to get more comfortable with using his vocal inflection as a weapon."
The No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft is facing massive expectations entering his second year in the league. Many feel that Williams should make significant improvements under Johnson, who is regarded as one of the best offensive minds in football following his tenure as offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions.

Johnson told Cronin that "the amount Williams is responsible for 'mentally' is likely greater in this offense than it has been at any other point of his career," but the 23-year-old isn't shying away from the challenge of learning a complex system.
"Everything he speaks, if you don't understand, he's patient," Williams said. "If you don't understand, he'll find a way to help you understand."
Cronin noted that Johnson "publicly announced a goal he'd like Williams to strive for in 2025: a 70 percent completion rate." Williams took it a step further by declaring he wants to become Chicago's first 4,000-yard passer in franchise history.
Every ounce of preparation will be necessary for Williams to fulfill his lofty expectations for the 2025 season. He will get started on chasing his goals when the Bears open the year on Sept. 8 in a Monday Night Football showdown against the Minnesota Vikings.
