Tim Patrick Traded to Jaguars from Lions Ahead of 2025 NFL Season For Draft Pick

Adam WellsAug 27, 2025

One day after roster cutdowns, the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off a trade involving Tim Patrick.

The Lions sent the veteran wide receiver to Jacksonville on Wednesday in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero first reported the deal.

This move is likely an indication that the Lions saw enough from rookie Isaac TeSlaa in the preseason to believe he's ready to hit the ground running when the regular season begins.

TeSlaa seemed to become everyone's favorite rookie in his three-game preseason run. The Arkansas alum put up 10 catches for 176 yards and three touchdowns.

With Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams already entrenched as starters in Detroit, TeSlaa's emergence made Patrick an odd-man out in the receiver room.

This is a good buy-low move for the Jaguars, whose receiver depth chart behind Brian Thomas Jr. has a lot of question marks. Travis Hunter figures to be featured heavily, but it's also unclear how his body will hold up initially playing on both sides of the ball early in his NFL career.

After Thomas and Hunter, Jacksonville's third receiver before acquiring Patrick was going to be Dyami Brown.

There is an injury concern for Patrick after he missed all of 2022 with a torn ACL and all of 2023 with a torn Achilles. The 31-year-old did bounce back last season, recording 394 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games for the Lions.

Patrick is only making $2.5 million in 2025, so the Jaguars aren't costing themselves much money if this doesn't work out. He will presumably line up on the outside, with Thomas on the other side of the field and Hunter in the slot for head coach Liam Coen.

Giving Trevor Lawrence more pass-catching options can't hurt a Jaguars team that is trying to improve upon last season's 4-13 record.

We will see what Coen's offense looks like with this group of skill-position talent when the Jaguars open the regular season against the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 7.
