Eagles' Jalen Hurts, Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown Named Nos. 19, 20 on 2025 NFL Top 100

Joseph ZuckerAug 25, 2025

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown cracked the top 20 in the ranking of the NFL's 100 best players heading into the 2025 season.

Hurts actually lost some ground despite winning a Super Bowl, going down to No. 19.

St. Brown's production went down slightly in 2024. His 115 receptions and 1,263 yards were marginally below his 2023 standards, though he hauled in two more touchdown grabs (12).

That didn't reflect anything about the 25-year-old's performance and was more about Jameson Williams emerging as a viable No. 2 option. Williams' targets jumped from 42 to 91, so St. Brown got fewer looks from quarterback Jared Goff.

In general, St. Brown's status as an elite pass-catcher isn't in doubt and he fully lived up to the $120 million extension he signed last spring.

"Has elite football instincts for the position," one coordinator told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "Understands how to attack leverage. Runs hard every play. Plays inside and outside. Makes all the tough catches on high-leverage downs. Blocks, plays physical. The only thing he doesn't do is win outside the red line [close to the sideline], but that's not how the game works anyways."

The Lions will be counting on the three-time Pro Bowler to stay at that level in offense that's likely to look a little different with John Morton taking over for Ben Johnson.

Hurts is a fascinating case because his stock is dipping as his team's on-field fortunes peak.

The 27-year-old climbed as high as third in the 2023 Top 100, and now the opinions about his game seem to be as low as they've ever been since he took over as the full-time starter.

It's certainly true that the raw numbers from 2024 aren't that impressive. Hurts threw for 2,903 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions while running for 630 yards and 14 scores.

The Eagles coaching staff didn't ask the two-time Pro Bowler to put the team on his back much as the year went on, either. Between Weeks 5-18, he had one game in which he attempted at least 30 passes.

"They tried to throw it more early in the year," one defensive coordinator told The Athletic's Mike Sando. "He could not do that, so they said, 'Screw it, run the ball 40 times a game.'"

Hurts is sitting ahead of a lot of players on the Top 100 list, yet Eagles fans may think he's getting short shrift after what's typically the crowning achievement in a player's NFL career.
