Trey Lance's Full Chargers Preseason Stats After Levi's Stadium Return vs. 49ers
Trey Lance played his shortest preseason game of the year in his return to Levi's Stadium, as the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback was replaced by Taylor Heinicke with 3:30 left in the first quarter against his former team, the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday.
The former No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of North Dakota State struggled to generate any offense, leading three punts on as many drives. Despite the quiet performance, Lance finished 5-of-8 for 38 yards.
Overall for the preseason, he completed 32 of his 57 pass attempts (56.1 completion percentage) for 334 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He added 81 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

The return was expected to be more meaningful for the 25-year-old, who spent two seasons in San Francisco. He started four games for the 49ers, totaling 797 yards with a 54.9% completion rate and five touchdowns. However, the anticipated comeback ended early, as Lance was pulled late in the first quarter with the score still tied 0-0.
Ahead of Saturday's matchup, Lance said he had no ill will toward his former team after being traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 2023, calling the meeting "just another game."
"I, again, don't have a bad thing to say about anyone or anything there. Had a great time. Learned a ton," Lance said, per KCAL News' Chris Hayre. "… It'll be exciting and fun to see Brock (Purdy) and see Coach Shanahan and some of the guys that are still there that I played with. … But outside of that, it's ball. It's another game."
The Chargers will open the regular season against the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL's São Paulo Game on Sept. 5.
