Colts QB Coach Says Anthony Richardson Has 'Great Effort,' Not Enough 'Consistency'
Indianapolis Colts quarterback coach Cam Turner said that Anthony Richardson, who lost the QB1 battle to Daniel Jones, has "great effort" but not enough "consistency" at the moment.
"As a position coach, you wanna see your guys succeed and be successful naturally. And I feel like I've tried everything I can do, and I feel like he's given great effort in that aspect too," Turner said.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
"I don't think, either way, it's one or the other. I just think right now...the consistency's just not where we wanted it to be."
Richardson joined the Colts after they used the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft on the ex-Florida Gator. He carried great promise and a high ceiling but also didn't have much experience in college, starting just 13 games.
He had some early success in his rookie year, accounting for seven touchdowns (three passing, four rushing) and just one interception in four starts. Unfortunately, Richardson underwent season-ending surgery due to AC joint sprain to his right throwing shoulder, ending his year.
Thankfully, Richardson was good to go for 2024, but inconsistency plagued his second year. At times, he looked great, launching long bombs down the field, like this one to Alec Pierce.
But Richardson was also inaccurate (47.7 percent completion rate; 12 interceptions to just eight touchdowns) and even got benched last year for Joe Flacco for a pair of games.
This year, Richardson entered the offseason in a QB1 battle with Daniel Jones, who played five-plus seasons for the New York Giants before they benched him and later parted ways with the ex-Duke Blue Devil last November.
Jones won the contest and is the starter moving forward, per head coach Shane Steichen to reporters.
That means Richardson's Colts career is in limbo, of course, but at just 23 years old, it's certainly possible he gets another chance down the line, especially given all the hype and potential surrounding him earlier in his career. It's unclear when and where that will be, but for now, he's the backup in Indianapolis.
