Shedeur Sanders Spoke With Dillon Gabriel, 'Not Tripping' Over 'Entertainers' Comment

Doric SamAug 21, 2025

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders made it clear that there's no beef between him and fellow first-year signal-caller Dillon Gabriel.

Sanders told reporters on Thursday that he's "not tripping" over Gabriel's "entertainers and competitors" comment from this past weekend's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Gabriel raised eyebrows during a sideline interview when he made a comment that some perceived to be directed toward Sanders.

"You know, there's entertainers and there's competitors and I totally understand that," he said. "My job is to compete, and that's what I'm focused on doing."

Gabriel clarified after the game that he wasn't taking a shot at Sanders with that statement.

"Entertainers are you all," Gabriel told reporters after Cleveland's 22-13 win. "Competitor, that's what I am, and all my teammates. And we both have jobs to do. So, that's it."

The Browns selected Gabriel in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft, and they added Sanders two rounds later. The two of them were in a four-way quarterback competition during training camp along with veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, and Cleveland announced earlier this week that Flacco won the starting job.

Sanders impressed when he started the preseason opener and threw two touchdown passes, but he was forced to sit out against the Eagles due to an oblique injury. Gabriel, who missed the opener with a hamstring injury, got the start and struggled a bit with two turnovers.

Still, many expect the Browns to keep all four quarterbacks on the roster for the 2025 season, so Sanders and Gabriel will have time to continue working on their relationship.
