Dillon Gabriel Says He Wasn't Shading Shedeur Sanders with 'Entertainers' Comment

Zach BacharAug 16, 2025

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel said that he wasn't taking a shot at teammate Shedeur Sanders in the team's 22-13 preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.

"Entertainers are you all," Gabriel told reporters after the win. "Competitor, that's what I am, and all my teammates. And we both have jobs to do. So, that's it."

Gabriel made comments during the game that were initially perceived as the rookie passer potentially slighting Sanders.

"You know, there's entertainers and there's competitors and I totally understand that," Gabriel said in a sideline interview. "My job is to compete, and that's what I'm focused on doing."

The former Oregon standout finished 13-of-18 for 143 yards against Philadelphia, although he threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Sanders didn't see any action during the contest due to an oblique injury.

Gabriel and Sanders were selected by the Browns with third and fifth-round picks in the 2025 NFL draft, respectively.

They're both part of Cleveland's quarterback competition that also includes veteran Joe Flacco and former first-round draft choice Kenny Pickett.

Sanders started in the Browns' preseason opener, as Gabriel missed the game due to a hamstring injury.

The former Colorado signal-caller looked sharp, finishing 14-of-23 for 138 yards and two touchdowns without getting picked off during a 30-10 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Gabriel's comments may have been viewed as a jab at his teammate due to Sanders' large media presence, as his 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders podcast has over 121,000 subscribers on YouTube. He also has 2.5 million followers on Instagram.

Both rookies are looking to compete for more playing time moving forward, as they were both listed behind Flacco and Pickett on Cleveland's latest unofficial depth chart.

Their position battle doesn't seem to be resulting in any genuine animosity between the two, though.
