Phillies' Jose Alvarado Reinstated After 80-Game PED Ban, Ineligible for MLB Playoffs
José Alvarado is back with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), the left-handed reliever returned from his rehab assignment from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and was reinstated from MLB's restricted list before the Phillies' matchup against the Seattle Mariners.
Alvarado was serving an 80-game unpaid suspension after he violated the league's performance-enhancing substance policy.

The Phillies announced that they have designated left-handed pitcher Josh Walker for assignment to make room for Alvarado on the 40-man roster.
While Alvarado is back on the 40-man roster for the remainder of the season, he is still ineligible to pitch in the postseason. Before being suspended, Alvarado appeared in 20 games, recording a 2.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and seven saves.
In the weeks leading up to his return, Alvarado acknowledged that he "made a mistake" and offered his "deepest apologies."
While the Phillies will be without Alvarado this postseason, they have a deep bullpen featuring closers Jhoan Duran, who they acquired from the Minnesota Twins at the deadline, and Jordan Romano.
Philadelphia has managed well despite not having Alvarado. The Phillies are in control of the NL East at 72-53, 5.5 games ahead of the second-placed New York Mets.
