Anthony Richardson's NFL Future Questioned by Fans as Daniel Jones Named Colts QB1
The Indianapolis Colts will reportedly name Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback over Anthony Richardson, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
This is undoubtedly a huge blow for Richardson's Colts career and a big disappointment for the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. Analysts and fans gave their insight on the matter.

In 2023, Richardson was held to four games after undergoing a season-ending surgery following an AC joint sprain to his (right) throwing shoulder.
In 2024, Richardson struggled, completing 47.7 percent of throws for eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions. At times, fans saw why the Colts took a chance on Richardson, as he had a penchant for completing amazing downfield throws. However, Richardson was also inconsistent, to the point where he got benched for veteran Joe Flacco for two games.
In 2025, the Colts signed Jones, a former New York Giant who was released from the team in November 2024 after five-plus seasons, to a one-year deal. That signaled a QB1 battle between the two.
In June, Richardson suffered an aggravation of the AC joint in his right shoulder, and he was forced to sit a few offseason team workouts. That being said, he was ready to go for training camp.
In the end, Richardson lost out to Jones, a quarterback who struggled to find success with the Giants outside a successful 2022 campaign.
This appears to be a longer-term move.
It's possible Richardson gets a shot later in the season to be the starter, but as of now, this could very well spell the end of his Colts career. He's just 23 years old, though, and could certainly develop and find success in the NFL. It doesn't seem like it will happen in Indianapolis, though.
