Pirates' Tommy Pham Blasts Tyler Heineman After Home Plate Incident, 'F--k Him'

Joseph ZuckerAug 19, 2025

Pittsburgh Pirates left fielder Tommy Pham continues to be a master of diplomacy in MLB.

The benches briefly cleared during Pittsburgh's 5-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night. Pham's demonstrable reaction to drawing a walk in the seventh inning elicited a response from Toronto catcher Tyler Heineman, and things escalated from there.

Pham posted on social media after the game he didn't like how Heineman complained about the umpire's call on a pitch that was clearly out of the zone. He called it "disrespectful not only to the umpire but the hitter as well" and added, "f--k him."

Responding to a fan in a since-deleted post, Pham also referred to Blue Jays right fielder/third baseman Addison Barger as "someone who takes steroids" and referenced a purported positive test in 2019:

The 37-year-old has built a reputation for himself across his career, which is evidenced by the fact he has played for 10 teams. In only three of those instances did his tenure extend beyond one season.

Pham isn't one to take a perceived slight lightly, either. In 2022, he received a three-game suspension for slapping Joc Pederson over a disagreement they had about their fantasy football league.

The Pirates and Blue Jays have two games left in their series, and those encounters got a lot more interesting based on what happened Monday night. Some of Heineman and Barger's teammates may have a bone to pick with Pham.
