Cameron Brink Held Scoreless as Kelsey Plum, Sparks Lose to Sonia Citron, Mystics

Taylyn Hadley Aug 17, 2025

Cameron Brink was held scoreless as the Los Angeles Sparks fell 95–86 to the Washington Mystics on the road Sunday, despite a standout performance from Kelsey Plum.

Brink pulled down two rebounds, while Plum finished with 25 points, six assists and three steals. Dearica Hamby added 26 points and seven assists.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Brink is averaging 5.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game this season off the bench. However, her offensive production has dipped recently — she’s attempted just four total field goals over the last three games, scoring a combined five points in that span.

With the loss, the Sparks dropped to 17–17 on the season as they continue to battle the Mystics for the No. 9 and 10 spots in the WNBA standings.

Washington’s Sonia Citron finished with 24 points, Sug Sutton added eight points and seven assists. The Mystics improved to 16–18 and picked up their second straight victory after a win over the Indiana Fever on Friday.

The Sparks got off to a slow start, managing just 18 points in the first quarter and not scoring their first basket until nearly two minutes in, when Rickea Jackson knocked down a three-pointer. Los Angeles trailed 23–18 after the opening 10 minutes.

The Mystics opened the second quarter with six quick points, forcing the Sparks to call a timeout while facing a 29–18 deficit. Back-to-back buckets from Hamby gave the Sparks a brief spark, but Washington continued to control the tempo. The Sparks went into halftime trailing 53–41.

Jackson led Los Angeles at the break with 13 points, Rae Burrell added 10, and Brink pulled down two rebounds.

Hamby came out strong after halftime, scoring 12 points in the third quarter, while Plum added six. Despite the surge, the Mystics kept pace offensively, as both teams put up 24 points in the quarter.

The dominant trio of Plum, Hamby, and Jackson continued to push in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to as little as three after a Hamby layup off a feed from Plum. However, the Mystics responded with a run of their own, stretching the lead back to 11 with just over three and a half minutes remaining.

The Sparks couldn’t find a bucket in the final two minutes, opening the door for the Mystics to close out the game.

The Sparks will look to bounce back at home on Wednesday when they host Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings.
