Mets' Mendoza Says Team's Struggles 'Hard to Describe' Amid 14 Losses in 16 Games
The New York Mets are struggling, and manager Carlos Mendoza can't put his finger on what exactly has gone wrong in recent years.
"It's hard to describe, especially with how much talent and elite arms we got back there," Mendoza said, per ESPN's Jorge Castillo.
The Mets started the season 45-24, but have since gone 19-34 and dropped to 64-58, leading the Cincinnati Reds by just half a game for the final wild card slot. With Friday's loss to the Seattle Mariners, New York has now lost 14 of its last 16 games.

Despite the recent struggles, Mets owner Steve Cohen was optimistic that his squad could turn things around before the postseason.
“While the team has had a difficult run, I still believe in our team and believe they will turn it around. LGM,” Cohen said earlier this week, per the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
Whether Cohen's team shared that optimism is unclear, but star shortstop Francisco Lindor echoed the message of his manager on Friday.
"It's tough," Lindor said, per Castillo. "We have all asked that question, and it's tough to point out one thing. We are all trying to win ballgames. All I can think of right now is that we're not clicking at the same time and the other team is outplaying us."
