Teaming together for the first time since 2011, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage beat Killswitch and Kip Sabian at AEW Forbidden Door on Sunday.

They celebrated the win with a handshake, further cementing the easing of their past tension:

Copeland and Cage are among the greatest tag teams in pro wrestling history, winning seven world tag teams titles together in WWE as Edge and Christian, but they eventually went their separate ways, and there was a time when they were both out of wrestling.

Cope retired in 2011 due to a serious neck injury, and Christian seemingly had his last match in 2014 after suffering multiple concussions.

Copeland shockingly returned to WWE as an in-ring competitor in 2020, and Christian did the same in 2021 as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble match.

Christian left WWE and signed with AEW shortly thereafter, eventually establishing himself as one of the company's top heels. Copeland remained in WWE until 2023 when he joined Cage in AEW.

While Cope expressed a desire to have one last run with Christian as a tag team, Cage refused, leading to a lengthy rivalry between them over the TNT Championship.

Things started to improve between Copeland and Christian at All In last month, though, as Cope returned and prevented Cage from taking a Con-Chair-To at the hands of Nick Wayne and Sabian, who were part of The Patriarchy under Christian before turning on him.

After saving Cage, Copeland told him to go find himself, which set the stage for Christian to return the favor a few weeks later.

Cope beat Stokely Hathaway in a match by disqualification on the Aug. 13 episode of Dynamite after Hathaway threw powder in his eyes. That allowed Stokely's clients, FTR, to take advantage by attacking The Rated-R Superstar, but Cage ran down and made the save.

That led to Cope and Christian sharing a hug in the ring, much to the delight of the fans who were in attendance. That rekindled their friendship and partnership, and set the stage for a match against Wayne and Sabian at Forbidden Door.

However, when Wayne announced he could not compete due to injury, another former Patriarchy member in Killswitch returned to take his place vs. Copeland and Cage.

With Copeland and Christian coming out on top in their first tag team match together in 14 years, it likely lays the groundwork for a match against FTR in the near future.
