Paige Bueckers Says It's Been a 'Learning Process' in Rookie WNBA Season with Wings
Dallas Wings star guard Paige Bueckers' rookie season is winding down, with her team having eight games to go beginning with Tuesday's contest at the Indiana Fever.
Before the game, ESPN's Christine Williamson asked Bueckers what she's learned about herself during her rookie season thus far. She provided the following response (18-second mark).

"A lot. I think just how to lead where I'm at. I know I'm a rookie. I don't have the most experience in the league, but to be able to use my voice and the knowledge and the wisdom that I have in basketball and for my teammates to be receptive to that. And just becoming process-oriented and not results-oriented and going about our business and my business in a certain way regardless of the wins or losses and the outcomes. So it's been a learning process overall."
Bueckers, the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA draft and a member of the reigning NCAA champion UConn Huskies, has met the hype and then some in her rookie year. Entering Tuesday, she's averaged 18.5 points, 5.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game. As ESPN also noted on the pregame broadcast, Bueckers had also scored or assisted on 31.3 points per game. Bueckers was named an All-Star Game starter as well.
It's been a tough year for the Wings, though. Dallas entered Tuesday on a five-game losing streak to drop the team to 8-24, the second-worst win-loss record in the 13-team WNBA. The Wings have also lost 11 of 13 games overall.
So it'll be a process for Dallas, which is in a rebuilding process after going 9-31 last season, to become a playoff contender once again. Bueckers has been sensational, though, and it's clear her leadership skills have developed well this year even as a rookie.
Ultimately, it's a tough road for Dallas now, but Bueckers' sensational season brings great hope for the future.
