Xander Schauffele, J.J. Spaun Qualify for 2025 USA Ryder Cup Team, Join Scheffler

The 2025 USA Ryder Cup team is continuing to take shape with a pair of new additions on Tuesday.

The team announced that Xander Schauffele and J.J. Spaun are the latest golfers to qualify, joining World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

Per ESPN's Mark Schlabach, Spaun qualified for the Ryder Cup with his runner-up finish in Sunday's FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis. It was his third runner-up finish of the 2025 season, paving the way for his first trip to the Ryder Cup.

This continues a special year for Spaun, who also achieved his first major championship when he won the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club on June 15 in a dramatic finish. He also had a close loss to England's Justin Rose on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff at TPC Southwind, which was the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs. The 34-year-old has risen to eighth in the Official World Golf Ranking.

A two-time major champion with victories at the PGA Championship and Open Championship in 2024, Schauffele will be making his third consecutive appearance in the Ryder Cup. While he hasn't scored a victory this year after starting the season with a rib injury, he has three top-10 finishes. He's currently ranked third in the world.

The other three automatic qualifiers for the Ryder Cup USA team will be determined after this week's BMW Championship, with the golfers ranked fourth to sixth in the U.S. points standings earning the spots. U.S. team captain Keegan Bradley will then make six captain's choices Aug. 27 following the completion of the Tour Championship.

The European team currently consists of Rose, Masters champion Rory McIlroy and England's Tommy Fleetwood. The rest of the team will be rounded out by picks from captain Luke Donald and three more automatic qualifiers.
