This year's players' weekend will take place Aug. 15-17 and feature players showing off some of their personality with customized bats and cleats. Players can then auction off the bats and cleats to benefit charities of their choice.

Mayer's bat will feature Lightning McQueen from the movie Cars at a time when the Red Sox could use a bit of a turbo charge in their playoff push.

After all, they've lost three of their last four games and are four games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East. They are still in playoff positioning in second place in the AL wild-card race but are just 2.5 games ahead of the New York Yankees and three games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians.

As for Mayer, he is slashing .228/.272/.402 with four home runs and 10 RBI in 44 games during his rookie season.

He and the Red Sox will host the Miami Marlins for players' weekend as they look to turn things around with the help of Lightning McQueen.
