One of the biggest releases of the sports video game calendar takes place this week with the launch of Madden 26, the latest edition into the wildly popular franchise.
In recent years, the game has faced scrutiny for being repetitive, with only so much new that can be introduced to any given production. The introduction of AI and next generation gaming systems, though, have allowed developers to make Madden the most true-to-life football game ever produced.
What does this year's release have in store for gamers, who are the top-rated superstars in this year's offering, and when can fans start playing?
Find out in this preview.

New Game Features
3 of 3Gameplay
This year's release has revamped quarterback play by focusing on every element that goes into the signal-caller's game. From the type of thrower they are to their ability to throw on the move, the game has revamped the position so that every play feels like it would on any given Sunday.
It has also improved its football weather dynamics, ensuring that players will either adapt their game plan to the rain, snow, sleet, and heat or see it disintegrate as they struggle to find traction and the end zone.
This year's product has also retooled coaching to better reflect the patterns of the league's best and on the defensive side of the ball, features new stunts and a twist option so that your pass rush looks and feels like that of the game's best.
Franchise
This year's game features the "biggest franchise update...in a decade."
In an attempt to provide the real-feel coaching experience, the game puts more emphasis on compiling coaching staff and adjusting strategies for each week. New AI, weather impacts, and player traits have also combined to provide the most realistic play yet.
Finally, the atmosphere of each game changes based on whether it is a normal day game, a featured afternoon, or a high-profile primetime showdown. Halftime and weekly recap shows allow players to track what is going on around the league so they can keep up to date on which teams will be their toughest competition down the stretch and into the postseason.
Superstar
The 20th anniversary of the Superstar mode brings with it a number of different chapters to progress through in pursuit of a spot in immortality in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
From the high expectations of entering the league through the NFL Draft to becoming the leader of the team, there are the typical beats. There are also three redemptive chapters, including reclaiming your position after being benched.
You can even demand a trade and live out that process through the mode as Madden 26 looks to make it the best, deepest, most true-to-form version of the mode to date.
Simply put, if it matters in the game of professional football, it mattered to the developers of Madden 26.
