Brett Favre Talks Steelers' Aaron Rodgers, Says QB Still Has Super Bowl Potential

Adam WellsAug 9, 2025

Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers' former teammate, thinks the four-time NFL MVP is still capable of playing at a high level.

Speaking to TMZ Sports (starts at 2:00 mark), Favre believes Rodgers "still has the potential" to win a Super Bowl at this late stage of his career.

"He can still play," Favre said of Rodgers. "There's no question."

The Pittsburgh Steelers are banking on Rodgers being able to play at a high level. They seemingly built their entire quarterback plan for 2025 around him, including waiting on him to decide if he was going to play this season before finally signing him to a one-year deal in June.

It's a big bet to make because Rodgers hasn't played like a top-tier quarterback since his most recent MVP season in 2021. He did have solid stats last season with the New York Jets, throwing for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns in 17 starts. His 48.0 QBR ranked 25th out of 32 qualified quarterbacks.

Of course, the Steelers have found success in recent years despite not having great quarterback play. Last season, for instance, Russell Wilson ranked 21st in QBR.

The last Pittsburgh quarterback who finished a season ranked higher than 20th in QBR was Ben Roethlisberger in 2018.

Despite those issues at the most important position, the Steelers are consistently a competitive team. They have made the playoffs in four of the last five years, but they haven't won a postseason game since January 2017.

If the combination of Steelers' consistency and Rodgers being motivated to potentially go out strong in what could be his final year in the NFL, maybe they end their six-game playoff losing streak this season.
