Colts' Salvon Ahmed Reportedly Suffers Season-Ending Injury on Illegal Hip-Drop Tackle
Indianapolis Colts running back Salvon Ahmed will miss the entire 2025 NFL season due to an ankle injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
ESPN's Stephen Holder reported Sunday that Ahmed was carted off the field during a training camp practice after undrafted rookie safety Trey Washington took him down with an illegal hip-drop tackle.
Per Schefter, the Colts signed running back Nate Noel on Friday to replace Ahmed on the roster.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Colts head coach Shane Steichen commented on Ahmed's injury after it happened, telling reporters: "Never want to see that happen. I know we don't encourage hip-drop tackles. I know Trey's down in the dumps, and I don't think he's trying to do that. We're just trying to create an edge. ... Those [backups] are going to have to tackle come preseason."
Ahmed, 26, starred collegiately at Washington, rushing for 2,016 yards and 21 touchdowns during his three seasons with the Huskies.
He was not selected in the 2020 NFL draft, and after spending some time with the San Francisco 49ers, Ahmed signed with the Miami Dolphins prior to the 2020 campaign.
Ahmed went on to appear in 38 regular-season games with the Dolphins from 2020 to 2023, starting four of them. All told, he rushed for 593 yards and five touchdowns, while catching 40 passes for 274 yards and one score.
The Denver Broncos signed Ahmed to their practice squad during the 2024 season before releasing him a week later, and he was quickly signed to the Colts' practice squad.
Indianapolis subsequently signed him to a reserve/futures contract, and he was hoping to earn a roster spot with the team during training camp and the preseason.
Jonathan Taylor remains the Colts' unquestioned starter at running back, leading Tyler Goodson, rookie fifth-round pick DJ Giddens, Khalil Herbert, Ulysses Bentley IV and Noel to compete for backup roles.
The Colts lost 24-16 to the Baltimore Ravens in their preseason opener on Thursday. Bentley led the team in rushing with 35 yards on seven carries, while Herbert carried the ball seven times for 29 yards and a touchdown.
