Chiefs Reportedly 'Expecting' Rashee Rice to Be Suspended 4-6 Games by NFL

Zach BacharAug 8, 2025

The Kansas City Chiefs are "expecting" wide receiver Rashee Rice to receive a suspension from the NFL "in the neighborhood" of four to six games, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

Rice was sentenced to five years' probation and 30 days of jail time that can be served during those five years for his involvement in a 2024 multi-car crash. His case will be dismissed if he completes his probation, as he received deferred adjudication.

Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury, via Jamie Stengle of the Associated Press.

Prosecutors said that the 25-year-old was driving a Lamborghini SUV at 119 miles per hour and making "multiple aggressive maneuvers around traffic," eventually striking other vehicles before fleeing on foot (h/t Stengle).

On Saturday, Rice discussed the possibility of a suspension.

"This is my job, and this is what I love to do," Rice said, per ESPN's Nate Taylor. "Even when I'm not able to be out there with my team, I'm still going to be working as hard as I can so I can be back out there with them as soon as possible."

Rice was selected by the Chiefs with a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He hauled in 79 receptions for 938 yards as a rookie. His second season was cut short after four games because of a knee injury.

When Rice is ultimately disciplined, veteran JuJu Smith-Schuster and 2025 fourth-round pick Jalen Royals are top candidates to replace him next to Xavier Worthy and Marquise "Hollywood" Brown in Kansas City's starting offense.
