Caleb Williams' Frustrated Reaction in Viral Practice Video Downplayed by Bears GM
Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles put little stock in the viral clip showing quarterback Caleb Williams getting visibly frustrated during a passing drill in training camp.
The 2024 No. 1 overall pick missed the target on four throws and made his annoyance clear to anyone watching.

"I actually think it's pretty cool," Poles told ESPN's Courtney Cronin. "I knew there was a bad practice. I've seen clips on Twitter. I didn't know it was a national crisis of Caleb struggling."
Williams and the Bears are learning a new offense with head coach Ben Johnson and offensive coordinator Declan Doyle at the helm. It's safe to say there are some bumps in the road.
Williams called it "challenging" in an interview with NFL Network's Stacey Dales and acknowledged he has been frustrated at times. But he said the practice field is where you have those problems and work through them.
When it comes to the throwing drill video specifically, this feels like a classic example of overreacting during training camp and projecting whatever your existing opinions are onto a situation.
If Williams misses four short throws and then turns around with no reaction whatsoever, his loudest critics would be just as quick to argue it looks like he doesn't care and isn't that committed to improving.
It's true the expectations for quarterbacks are a little different. They're one of the biggest leaders on the field and that requires maintaining a level of composure in the face of adversity.
Surely you wouldn't see the greats of the position lose their poise for a brief moment.
That simply doesn't happen.
With Williams, let's wait until the regular season kicks off to start worrying about his development under Johnson's tutelage.
