Chiefs' Travis Kelce Downplays Possible Retirement, Got To 'Enjoy It for What It Is'

Scott PolacekAug 6, 2025

This year might be Travis Kelce's final training camp.

Or it might not be.

Either way, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was noncommittal when asked Wednesday if he thinks about how many training camps he has remaining in his NFL career.

"Nah, man," he told reporters. "You've just got to go through the dog days and enjoy it for what it is."

That retirement would be a topic of interest when it comes to Kelce comes as no surprise. After all, he will turn 36 years old this season and is entering his 13th year in the NFL. There is little left for him to accomplish as one of the greatest tight ends in the history of the sport.

His resume includes three Super Bowl titles, 10 Pro Bowl selections, four First-Team All-Pro nods, seven seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards and three seasons with double-digit touchdown catches.

Kelce's presence is a major reason the Chiefs are coming off a third straight Super Bowl appearance and fifth in the last six years.

"I think that gives more juice than anything else is the fact that we have created this culture," Kelce said. "We have created this machine that, when you do it the right way, it works, and you get to win football games because of it. And I think that alone gives you the excitement that what we're doing here is special."

There could be some additional motivation for Kelce this season, as the Chiefs are coming off a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. He also had something of a down year by his incredible standards even though he posted 97 catches for 823 yards and three touchdowns.

It was the first time since 2015 that he failed to reach the 900-yard mark and the fewest receiving yards he's had in a season since he appeared in one game as a rookie in 2013.

A motivated Kelce could be a problem for opposing defenses, and the end result could be yet another Super Bowl ring.

And then the questions would surely come again about whether he is going to return in 2026.
