Country music star Jelly Roll revealed this week that he wanted to lose his match at SummerSlam this past weekend.

Appearing on the What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast with WWE champion Cody Rhodes (beginning at the 53:28 mark of the video), Jelly Roll said he approached WWE head of creative Triple H with the idea of losing:

"I told Triple H, 'I wanna lose at SummerSlam,'" Jelly Roll said. "Just because no celebrity's ever took an L, they always put 'em over. And if you don't put me over, I always have a reason. There's always just something lingering, I can pop up any time."

After weeks of training, Jelly Roll made his in-ring debut this past weekend on Night 1 of SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Jelly Roll teamed with future WWE Hall of Famer Randy Orton against Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul in what proved to be a highly entertaining match.

Paul and Jelly Roll had some strong interactions in particular with Paul putting Jelly through the announce table with a frogsplash and Jelly hitting Paul with a good-looking chokeslam.

In the end, Jelly Roll did indeed come out on the losing end, as Paul hit him with a frogsplash for the win.

Jelly Roll's comments to Rhodes suggest that he won't be appearing on WWE programming for the foreseeable future after the loss, although it gives him plenty of incentive to come back for retribution in the future.

Putting the heels over also gives Paul and McIntyre a ton of momentum heading into the end of summer and the beginning of fall, so Jelly Roll's selfless act could prove to be a great thing for the WWE product as a whole.
