Angel Reese Has No 'Concrete Timetable' for Return from Back Injury, Sky HC Says

Julia StumbaughAug 5, 2025

Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh said on Tuesday that there is no "concrete timetable" as to when Angel Reese will return from the back injury that has sidelined her for the last week.

Marsh described Reese's injury as "day-to-day" and noted that she missed a shootaround on Tuesday due to an illness (h/t Winsidr.)

"I think she's progressing, but still kind of waiting to see," Marsh said.

Reese will miss her third straight game when the Sky tip off at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday against the Washington Mystics.

The forward was previously sidelined with a back injury for two games before returning to the lineup on July 29.

She contributed 22 points and 13 rebounds in a loss to the Mystics, but indicated after the game that she had been playing through something.

"It was ugly, ugly, very ugly for me, but I try to push through as much as I can for my teammates, because I know they need me out there," Reese told reporters.

Marsh then said that Reese's back had "tightened up" after that outing against the Mystics, and she was being held out of the Sky's Aug. 1 game against the Golden State Valkyries for "precautionary reasons."

Sitting Reese means the Sky, a team ranked above only the Connecticut Sun as the second lowest-scoring team in the WNBA, is losing its leading scorer and playmaker. Reese is averaging a team-high 14.2 points and 12.6 rebounds per game in her second WNBA season.

The Sky sit fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 7-21 record and are currently riding an eight-game losing streak that will be even more difficult to overcome without Reese.

With the Sky all but out of contention for the 2025 postseason, the franchise may need to prioritize Reese's long-term health over getting her quickly back into the lineup. In the short term, her absence means Elizabeth Williams will likely draw into the starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Mystics.
