Jayden Daniels Talks Terry McLaurin Contract Hold-In, Hopes 'It All Gets Resolved'

Julia StumbaughAug 5, 2025

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is hoping to get his top wide receiver back soon through the resolution of the contract hold-in that has so far kept Terry McLaurin on the sidelines of training camp.

"Control what I can control," Daniels told Evan Washburn of NFL on CBS. "I know someday 17 will be running out here, and hopefully soon, but I can't control what he has going on in his business, or the front office, stuff like that. I've got to go out there and try to be the best version of myself, each and every day.

"I just hope one day it all gets resolved and 17 is back out here catching passes."

McLaurin held out for the first four days of Commanders training camp before reporting to camp on Sunday and being placed on the team's physically unable to perform list.

The wide receiver lost a total of $800,000 through fines and lost bonuses while holding out from offseason activities and the beginning of camp, per Spotrac.

ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported last Thursday that McLaurin had requested a trade from the Commanders amid stalled negotiations over his next contract.

As of that date, there had "been no movement toward a new deal," according to ESPN's John Keim.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reported on Monday that the Commanders "do not intend to trade" McLaurin, and that team representatives say "they continue to work toward a contract extension."

McLaurin is reportedly seeking more than $30 million per year on his next deal, per Graziano. The wide receiver is heading into the 2025 season on an expiring contract with an average annual value of $22.8 million, per Spotrac.

The fact that McLaurin turns 30 in September is "a sticking point" for the Commanders in ongoing negotiations, per Graziano.

McLaurin, the only Commanders target to record more than 1,000 receiving yards last season, was a central part of Daniels' ability to find success as a rookie. If McLaurin is returning to Washington D.C., giving Daniels time to work with him this offseason will be key to helping the second-year quarterback take another step forward as the leader of Washington's offense this fall.
