NFL Insider Says Tua, Tyreek Hill, Dolphins 'Not Hiding From Anything' amid Comments

Joseph ZuckerAug 4, 2025

Personnel inside the Miami Dolphins organization were encouraged by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's candid comments about wide receiver Tyreek Hill, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.

"They're not hiding from anything," one source told Graziano in reference to the two stars. "They're giving themselves a real shot at having a relationship and winning."

Graziano added that Miami's coaching staff "saw it as a sign that the two were working to address the real underlying issues of the situation, rather than gloss over it with platitudes or social media sniping."

Speaking to reporters on July 23, Tagovailoa said his relationship with Hill was "still a work in progress."

"Everyone knows what he can do in the field, everyone respects what he can do on the field; but I think he's still trying to figure things out for himself as well," the veteran signal-caller told reporters. "Kind of the man he wants to be and he's not too young. Everybody makes mistakes. It's just some people, they're in the spotlight and their deals get pushed out more than some others. Just got to cut him some grace. That's our teammate, we love him."

Hill had his worst season in a Dolphins uniform in 2024. He caught 81 passes for 959 yards and six touchdowns, though his production was partially attributable to Tagovailoa missing six games.

There was an underlying sense of frustration from the eight-time Pro Bowler. He briefly asked out of a Week 18 loss to the New York Jets and then made some cryptic comments about his future in Miami after the game.

Hill is trying to put all of that behind him as he looks toward the 2025 NFL season.

The uncertainty over his long-term status with the Dolphins will continue to linger as long as he's set to become a free agent in 2027. For now, his and the organization's objectives are the same. The better he performs, the more he's likely to get on his next deal and the stronger Miami's offense will be.

The honest conversations behind the scenes, beyond those involving Hill and Tagovailoa, could also go some way toward helping Miami rebound from a disappointing 8-9 finish.
