WWE Rumors on Seth Rollins' Injury Angle Before MitB Cash In to Beat CM Punk for Title

Joseph ZuckerAug 3, 2025

Seth Rollins' victory over CM Punk at SummerSlam on Saturday night was all part of a carefully orchestrated plan that included embellishing a knee injury.

Fightful Select (via Ringside News' Steve Carrier) reported the supposed injury Rollins suffered in his loss to LA Knight at Saturday Night's Main Event was intended to throw everyone off at the start.

And while people behind the scenes began to question whether the injury was legitimate, WWE officials attempted to maintain the facade. That included communicating on the day of SummerSlam that a Money in the Bank cash-in wasn't expected, per Fightful.

Everyone involved went above and beyond to sell the idea that Rollins was hurt.

In the immediate aftermath of Saturday Night's Main Event, Triple H said the injury "doesn't look good." Rollins' wife, Becky Lynch, shared a brief clip on Instagram in which he was moving around on crutches with a massive brace on his right leg.

It's tough in this day and age to truly fool wrestling fans. News of a big debut, major return or storyline twist are bound to leak online. Thanks to smartphones, performers have to be alert at all times, too, lest they inadvertently spoil the surprise by breaking kayfabe away from the ring.

All of that seemed to be taken into account leading up to Rollins' stunning cash-in.

There will undoubtedly have been some who called this from the jump. For others, the swerve added to the excitement at SummerSlam.
