Dez Bryant Calls Out Cowboys' Jerry Jones Over Contract Negotiation Comments

Julia StumbaughAug 2, 2025

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant pushed back against what he called "disrespectful" comments about him made by team owner Jerry Jones in a series of posts shared Saturday on social media.

"I don't think it's smart to mention my name," Bryant told Jones in an all-caps post on X.

Bryant added, "Y'all don’t understand the amount of s--t I let slide... do not mention my name about s--t."

Bryant was responding to a quote shared on Saturday by Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, in which Jones brought up Bryant while discussing the recent trade request made by star linebacker Micah Parsons.

Parsons mentioned in a Friday post on X that he wanted to be traded by the Cowboys in part because he no longer wanted to be involved in contract negotiations "without my agent present."

When asked about his apparent desire to negotiate with Parsons rather than with his agent, Jones answered, “Because when we have a problem with the player, the agent is nowhere to be found."

Jones then seemingly referenced the Cowboys' contract negotiations with Bryant ahead of the 2015 season, during which time the former wideout was represented by Jay Z's agency Roc Nation Sports.

"Jay-Z said that Dez would make all meetings. Jay-Z and I negotiated the contract, spent hours," Jones told reporters, per Harris. "He said, ‘Anybody in my organization is on time.' He said, 'My office used to be on the street corner, and I’ve always been early. So, they will be on time.’

"And what did I say? I said, ‘I’m going to call you [when I have a problem].’ He quit taking my call.”

Those negotiations ultimately ended with the Cowboys signing Bryant to a five-year deal ahead of the 2015 season.

Bryant was ultimately released by the team in April 2018. The former wideout initially criticized the Cowboys' owner on social media after being cut, but later that year said he had never been "on bad terms" with Jones.
