GM Predicts 'A Lot' of Draft Trades
ESPN's Adam Schefter later reported that at least three of Parsons' Cowboys teammates in cornerback Trevon Diggs, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and safety Juanyeh Thomas changed their X avatars to a photo of Parsons.
On Friday, Parsons posted a lengthy statement on X in which he announced his trade request and declared that he "no longer want[s] to be here" in reference to the Cowboys organization:
Parsons wrote that he attempted to negotiate a new deal with the Cowboys on multiple occasions, but after having what he thought were informal contract talks with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, the organization refused to reach out to his agent.
Despite Parsons' desire to be traded, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that the Cowboys have no intention to grant his request, although that won't stop teams from calling.
Parsons, 26, was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft out of Penn State, and he has played his entire four-year career in Dallas thus far.
He won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2021, and has four Pro Bowl nods and two First Team All-Pro selections to his credit, along with three top-three finishes in NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting.
While injuries limited Parsons to 13 games last season, he still managed to finish with 12 sacks, making him only the second player in NFL history with 12 or more sacks in each of his first four NFL seasons, along with Hall of Famer Reggie White.
Parsons' combination of production and youth could make him one of the most sought-after trade commodities in recent memory.
If the Cowboys eventually change their mind and decide to make Parsons available via trade, the acquiring team will have to be capable of paying Parsons like one of the top pass-rushers in the league, similar to the likes of Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt and Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett.
The Cowboys have handed out big contracts in recent years to players such as Lamb, Diggs, quarterback Dak Prescott, offensive tackle Terence Steele, tight end Jake Ferguson and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, but the lack of progress with Parsons could potentially spell the end of his time in Dallas.
