Tyreek Hill Says He Understands Dolphins' Offense For 1st Time, Reacts to Tua's Remark

Julia StumbaughAug 1, 2025

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill says he understands the necessity of Tua Tagovailoa's comments about him needing to rebuild trust with his teammates ahead of the 2025 season.

Tagovailoa said last week that his relationship with Hill was a "work in progress" after the wide receiver seemingly told reporters he wanted "out" from the Dolphins at the end of the 2024 season.

"I think Tua's comments were needed. He's obviously the leader of our team, so he sets the standard," Hill told reporters Friday (h/t David Furones of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel). "I'm just trying to be the teammate, the best version of myself for this team I can be, every day.

"Showing up to meetings, coming out here every day, busting my tail in practice. I think it's important. If you want to be able to leave a legacy, you've got to be able to consistently do those kinds of things."

Hill noted that he had been late to one training camp practice because he was "dropping the kids off to the pool."

"I mean, besides that," Hill said. "I'm out here today, though."

Hill also told reporters that process, and working with passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik, is helping him get a better understanding of the Dolphins' offense.

"I'm gonna' be completely honest. I didn't understand the offense for the first three years of me being here," Hill said, per Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. But this year, I feel like Coach (Slowik) has explained it a lot."

Hill went on to praised receivers coach Robert Prince, saying that Prince has "been getting on me and (Jaylen) Waddle's nerve since he's got here."

"But I think it's great though that accountability piece is something that we needed and then also pushing us every day," Hill said, per Schad.

Hill added that he's taking notes during meetings with team leadership, which he described as "something I've never done in my career," per Schad.

The wide receiver's attempt at a fresh start ahead of the 2025 season comes after he told reporters after the Dolphins missed the playoffs last winter that "it was great playing here but at the end of the day, I have to do what's best for my career."

Hill later said these comments were made when he was frustrated about losing, adding in a February appearance on the Up & Adams Show that he was sure Tagovailoa "understands my frustration."

But Tagovailoa made it clear that his relationship with Hill hadn't yet fully recovered when speaking to reporters during the start of training camp last Wednesday.

“When you say something like that, you don’t just come back from that with, ‘Hey, my bad.' You gotta work that relationship up. You got to build everything up again," Hill said last week. "And yeah, it's still a work in progress, not just for me, but for everybody. But, like I said, he's working on himself."

Hill seems to be set on proving he's been building on that work as training camp continues in Miami, leading up to an Aug. 10 preseason opener against the Chicago Bears.
