5 Best NFL Trade Packages for Terry McLaurin After Commanders WR Requests Trade

Moe MotonJul 31, 2025

Amid a contract dispute with the Washington Commanders, wide receiver Terry McLaurin made headlines with a trade request shortly before the NFL's Hall of Game. His frustrations could lead to a blockbuster trade that would shake up the league.

Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz broke the news, though McLaurin's disappointment with negotiations bubbled to the surface when he recently voiced dismay about his contract situation.

Though most would expect the Commanders to retain their star receiver, who helped lead them to the NFC Championship Game last season, clubs will inquire with draft capital and perhaps players in strong offers.

Teams with a need at receiver, plenty of cap space and financial flexibility beyond 2025 should be first in line to gauge McLaurin's trade market. That said, those clubs must also give him a significant pay raise.

ESPN's Adam Schefter, who appeared on The Pat McAfee Show, believes McLaurin wants $33 million or more annually on a new deal.

So, any team that seriously considers acquiring McLaurin should be ready to give up premium draft capital for a two-time Pro Bowler and pay him at the rate of a top-five receiver in terms of average annual salary. By the way, the Commanders will want a deal that benefits them as well.

Here are five of the best trade packages for McLaurin.

Las Vegas Raiders

Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers

Washington Commanders Get: 2026 2nd-round pick, Jakobi Meyers

The Las Vegas Raiders have a new-look offense with quarterback Geno Smith, whom they acquired from the Seattle Seahawks. They also have a young receiver unit behind Jakobi Meyers. Las Vegas selected Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the second and fourth rounds, respectively, of this year's draft.

According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the Raiders have engaged with Meyers' camp about an extension.

If the Raiders are willing to give Meyers a new deal, why not offer him, along with a second-round pick, for a more accomplished receiver who's only a year older?

The Raiders can build the passing attack around All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers and McLaurin for the foreseeable future, while they develop Bech and Thornton in complementary roles.

Last year, Meyers proved that he can be a go-to target in a passing attack after Davante Adams requested a trade from Las Vegas. The seventh-year wideout went on to record career highs in catches (87) and receiving yards (1,027). Commanders quarterback Jayen Daniels can depend on Meyers as his most reliable target.

From the Raiders' perspective, McLaurin would be an upgrade over Meyers. McLaurin has racked up 1,000-plus receiving yards in five consecutive terms, while Meyers has only one such season in his career.

Washington Commanders Get: 2026 2nd-round pick, OL Zion Johnson, WR Quentin Johnston

In the Hall of Fame Game, Chargers offensive lineman Zion Johnson made his debut at center, and it didn't go well. As a rookie, he played right guard and then shifted to left guard over the last two years.

Los Angeles didn't pick up Johnson's fifth-year option, so he's entering a contract year and needs to play at an optimal level for a decent contract next offseason. Washington can try to get the most out of him while he has an extra incentive to perform at his best.

Remember, Commanders guard Sam Cosmi tore his ACL in January and will be out for an extended period. Johnson can fill a void along Washington's offensive line at his natural position. Perhaps with a change of scenery, Quentin Johnston could become a more efficient receiver.

Washington could help two recent first-rounders turn around their careers.

Meanwhile, McLaurin would form an intriguing wide receiver group with Ladd McConkey and rookie second-rounder Tre Harris.

With McConkey lining up primarily in the slot, McLaurin can complement him on the perimeter, which gives Harris time to develop in the No. 2 spot on the outside. Quarterback Justin Herbert would be primed for his most productive passing season with that trio of wideouts.

Washington Commanders Get: 2026 2nd-rounder, WR Kendrick Bourne, WR Ja'Lynn Polk

After tearing his ACL last October, Stefon Diggs has been a full participant at training camp and seems to be on track to suit up for Week 1. Still, the New England Patriots should double down on veteran receivers to help Drake Maye's early development.

Diggs is healthy enough to practice, but he may not be back to full speed in game action coming off a significant knee injury. Secondly, at 31, the 11th-year pro is slightly past his prime. McLaurin hasn't missed a game since 2020, and he's still performing at his peak.

The Patriots' package offers a veteran receiver and one with upside. Bourne can contribute right away. Polk may just need more opportunities to blossom into a consistent playmaker.

Polk, a second-rounder from the 2024 draft, hauled in 12 out of 33 targets for 87 yards and two touchdowns last season. He made steady progress over three collegiate terms at Washington and could do the same on the pro level with more experience and targets.

New York Jets Get: WR Terry McLaurin

Washington Commanders Get: 2026 2nd-round pick, Malachi Corley

In his first year as New York Jets general manager, Darren Mougey prioritized the young talent on his roster, signing cornerback Sauce Gardner and wideout Garrett Wilson to massive extensions. Now, he can take an aggressive approach to bolster a weak complementary receiver group behind Wilson.

Josh Reynolds is projected to be the Jets' No. 2 receiver. In eight campaigns, he's caught more than 40 passes in a season once, back in 2020. Reynolds is better suited as the third or fourth option in the passing game.

If the Jets want to see quarterback Justin Fields have a career rebirth as a quality starter, they should do their best to surround him with a well-rounded group of receivers. Wilson isn't enough. McLaurin could propel that unit over the top.

The Jets' new regime didn't invest in Malachi Corley; it inherited him. Keep in mind that the team selected Arian Smith in the fourth round of this year's draft. If Washington wants a young receiver with potential in a trade deal, Corley could be available to them.

Tennessee Titans

Washington Commanders Get: 2026 2nd-rounder, TE Chig Okonkwo

Recently, the Tennessee Titans waived 2022 first-rounder Treylon Burks. They didn't address the receiver position until the fourth round of this year's draft, taking Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor. Rookie quarterback Cam Ward needs more playmakers at that position.

Ward described his team as "very mid" in a press conference with reporters. The Titans can provide a spark with a splashy trade for a proven receiver who can grow with the 23-year-old signal-caller.

Calvin Ridley and McLaurin could be a Pro Bowl receiver duo that gives the Titans a chance to compete with teams that field prolific offensive attacks. They can also provide some balance as a complement to the run game, which features Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears.

Tennessee may be willing to part ways with Chig Okonkwo, which would be good news for the Commanders, who might want a pass-catcher in a trade package.

Despite the Titans' inconsistent quarterback play, Okonkwo has posted decent receiving numbers, though he could have a breakout year in Washington with 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels under center.

Okonkwo is a big-bodied athletic pass-catcher who has recorded at least 52 receptions in back-to-back seasons. He could pair up with Zach Ertz to create mismatches in two-tight-end sets on obvious passing downs.
