Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
May, a third-round draft pick by the Dodgers in 2016, made his major league debut with Los Angeles in 2019. He's been looking to establish himself as a mainstay of the roster, but faced a setback last year when he had to miss the entire season because of a torn flexor tendon in his right arm and an esophageal tear.
May has made 18 starts this season, the most of his career, finally finding his way into the rotation. He's gone 6-7 with a 4.85 ERA (84 ERA+) with 97 strikeouts and 43 walks in 104 innings.
While he hasn't had the best season and wasn't one of the top arms on the market, the Red Sox were in need of some pitching depth at the deadline. Boston is in a good position to make the postseason, sitting at 59-51 on the year, 1.5 games ahead in the wild card race. Adding an extra arm to the rotation should only help the Red Sox's postseason hopes.
The Dodgers have plenty of depth in their rotation, so they could afford to part ways with May. Los Angeles is sitting at the top of the NL West with the trade deadline now over, and it will look to continue its strong play down the stretch.
