Sophie Cunningham Says Doubting Caitlin Clark as Face of WNBA Is 'Dumb as S--t'
Caitlin Clark has emerged as one of the biggest stars in the WNBA through her first two seasons, but some argue that she hasn't reached face of the league status.
Her Indiana Fever teammate Sophie Cunningham begs to differ.
"It literally pisses me off when people are like 'She's not the face of the league,'" Cunningham said on the Show Me Something podcast (45:00 mark). "What? There's really good, well-known people in our league, I'm not discrediting them. We have a lot of badasses in our league. Like, hell yeah to that, I'm all for that. But when people try to argue she's not the face of our league, or our league would be where it's at without her, you're dumb as s--t. You're literally dumb as f--k."

It's hard to deny Clark's impact on the WNBA, considering Indiana set a WNBA record for home attendance her rookie year and the league saw an all-time viewership record last season.
Even WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said Clark "brought tens of millions of new viewers into the W" and that "there's no denying that impact, not just in the WNBA, but the world of sports."
Even if Clark isn't the unanimous face of the league yet, she should gain that status in the coming years.
Unfortunately, injuries have thrown a hurdle in her second season as she's been out since July 15 with a groin injury. Still, she's played well when healthy, averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 boards.
