Seahawks GM John Schneider Reportedly Agrees to 4-Year Contract Extension Through 2030

Adam WellsJul 30, 2025

Already one of the longest-tenured general managers in the NFL, John Schneider has agreed to a new contract with the Seattle Seahawks.

Per Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, the Seahawks gave Schneider a four-year extension that keeps him under contract through the 2030 NFL draft.

Not counting Jerry Jones, since he is both the owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, Schneider is the third-longest tenured GM in the NFL.

Cincinnati Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin, who serves as the de facto GM, and Mickey Loomis of the New Orleans Saints are the only people who have been in their job longer than Schneider.

Schneider's previous deal, which was signed in January 2021, ran through the 2027 draft. If he stays with the Seahawks through the end of his new contract, he will have been with the organization for 20 years.

Seattle originally hired Schneider in January 2010 after he spent the previous eight years working in the Green Bay Packers' front office.

The early days of Schneider's tenure with the Seahawks resulted in one of the greatest runs for any general manager in NFL history. His first three drafts from 2010 to '12 produced Russell Okung, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Richard Sherman, Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner.

Four of those six players could end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Of the 28 players drafted during that three-year run, 27 of them played in at least one regular-season game for an NFL team and eight made the Pro Bowl.

Those drafts also formed the core of the Seahawks' team that won Super Bowl 48 during the 2013 season.

Even as that success in the draft hasn't sustained for Schneider, the Seahawks have been a competitive team for virtually his entire run to this point. They have the sixth-most wins (147) in the NFL since 2010 with 10 playoff appearances, including back-to-back trips to the Super Bowl in 2013 and 2014.

The Seahawks have finished with winning records in 12 of the last 13 seasons.
