Orioles' Cedric Mullins Reportedly Eyed By Mets amid Luis Robert Jr., MLB Trade Rumors

The New York Mets are reportedly "considering" Baltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins and Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. ahead of Thursday's MLB trade deadline, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

He added that Baltimore's Ramon Laureano "seems to be further down the Mets' list."

Mullins, 30, is hitting just .221 with 15 homers, 47 RBI, 41 runs, 14 stolen bases and a .722 OPS, though that would be an upgrade over Tyrone Taylor (.559 OPS).

Robert, 27, had a breakout year in 2023 (38 homers, .857 OPS) but it's been uphill sledding since. Robert has 25 homers in his past 186 games and posted just a .657 OPS last season and .640 OPS this year, though it also can't be terribly fun slogging away on a helpless White Sox team. Contenders may bank on a change of scenery helping Robert rediscover his upside.

The Mets are in need of outfield help, so a pursuit of either Mullins or Robert would make sense. At 62-45, New York is a game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East divisional crown, and it likely will remain tight down the stretch. Bolstering in a number of areas, including the outfield, would be wise.
