Eugenio Suarez Has 'Exorbitant' Price Tag Ahead of Trade Deadline, MLB Exec Says

Paul KasabianJul 29, 2025

The price tag for Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez has been "exorbitant," per an MLB team executive's comments to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

"The most notable position players likely to move include Eugenio Suárez (whose price tag to this point has been 'exorbitant,' according to one executive, before the third baseman was hit on the hand by a pitch on Monday), Ryan O’Hearn, Luis Robert Jr., Marcell Ozuna and Cedric Mullins, though the last three are having below-average seasons at the plate."

The 34-year-old Suárez leads MLB with 87 RBI. He's also smacked 36 home runs (fourth in MLB) while posting an .898 OPS. Understandably, Arizona wants a huge haul in return for that tremendous production. The two-time All-Star is also on the final year of an eight-year, $79 million contract, so his new team won't be saddled with future money on the payroll.

Arizona has waved the white flag on a season that's gone south quickly with the team now sitting at 51-56 after losing six of seven. The Diamondbacks have also scored just nine runs during that stretch.

To make matters even worse, Suárez got hit on the right index finger by a pitch on Monday in a 5-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Thankfully, X-rays (taken Monday) and a CT scan and MRI (taken Tuesday) were all negative, per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. Suárez is still out of the lineup for Arizona's Tuesday game against Detroit, however.

Suárez has plenty of interest, with Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press specifically naming the Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies and Seattle Mariners.

We'll find out soon where Suárez lands, as this year's trade deadline looms on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET.
