Jets' Justin Fields Was 'Eager to Get Back on the Field' After Toe Injury

Paul KasabianJul 29, 2025

New York quarterback Justin Fields suffered a dislocated toe on his right foot last Thursday during a training camp session, but he's back at practice now. As noted to reporters Tuesday, he was "eager" to return to action.

"I definitely didn't want to miss much time," he said, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. "That's why I was so eager to get back on the field."

Fields, who signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets in free agency this offseason, only sat one practice. He was limited in another practice and then came back Monday for team drills, per Cimini.

Fields hasn't fully recovered from the toe injury, but it is "working its way back to 100 percent," per the quarterback's comments to reporters. In addition, Fields will practice a couple weeks while wearing a plastic shield outside of his cleats, according to Cimini.

This is a big year for the Jets, who are finally trying to break a decade-and-a-half malaise outside of the playoffs. New sheriffs are in town with general manager Darren Mougey running the front office and head coach Aaron Glenn patrolling the sidelines.

New York has a new quarterback as well in Fields after the Jets parted ways with Aaron Rodgers. Practice time is of the utmost importance here as he gets used to a new team and system, so it's good news that Fields didn't miss much time after dealing with a big scare last week.

Fields has fans on the team already, including defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who offered high praise for his signal-caller in an interview with Kay Adams.

Cornerback Sauce Gardner loves what he sees as well.

New York continues training camp from Florham Park, New Jersey, with Fields leading the way. The Jets' first game action this summer will be on Aug. 9, when they visit the Green Bay Packers for a preseason matchup.
