Venus Williams Enters 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles with Reilly Opelka as Wild Card
Venus Williams' comeback will continue at the U.S. Open, where she received a wild-card entry into the mixed doubles draw.
The 45-year-old will team up with fellow American Reilly Opelka.
Williams made her 2025 debut at the DC Open this month. She beat Peyton Stearns in the first round before losing to fifth-seeded Magdalena Fręch.
The tennis legend also teamed with Hailey Baptiste in the women's doubles tournament. They combined to knock off Eugenie Bouchard and Clervie Ngounoue in their opening match and lost to the eventual champions, Taylor Townsend and Shuai Zhang, in the quarterfinals.
Williams is a seven-time Grand Slam champion and won the 2008 WTA Finals as a singles player. On its own, that would make for a compelling Hall of Fame résumé.
The California native has been even more successful in doubles. She and sister Serena have 14 Grand Slam titles as a tandem, and Venus was a mixed doubles champion at the Australian Open and Roland-Garros in 1998 with Justin Gimelstob.
The mixed doubles competition at the US Open will be fierce. Jannik Sinner, Iga Świątek, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Jessica Pegula are among the stars taking part.
The two-day event will span Aug. 19 and 20, preceding the start of the main draws in men's and women's singles.
