Mets Reportedly Discussing Mark Vientos in Trade Talks Ahead of 2025 MLB Deadline
The New York Mets have brought up third baseman Mark Vientos in discussions as Thursday's MLB trade deadline looms, per SNY's Andy Martino.
"The Mets have been discussing Mark Vientos in trade talks this week, and rival executives believe that the team is willing to move him, league sources say. Teams have asked about Vientos, Brett Baty, and Ronny Mauricio. The Mets are not actively trying to rid themselves of any of those young infielders -- but given Baty’s recent production and newfound versatility, rival execs have come away with the sense that Vientos is more available than the others."

Tim Britton and Will Sammon of The Athletic later reported the Mets value Vientos, but would prefer to deal the young hitter "rather than their better prospects."
"To be honest with you, I feel like every year besides last year I’m in trade talks," Vientos told The Athletic. "It’s the same thing. I don’t really care. All I’m really focused on is just getting better. That’s it."
The 25-year-old Vientos has hit .226 (.638 OPS) with six home runs and 27 RBI in 73 games this season. That stat line represents a drop-off from the 2024 campaign, when Vientos smashed 27 home runs and knocked in 71 runners while posting a .266 batting average (.837 OPS) in 111 games. He also excelled in the 2024 playoffs, amassing five home runs and 14 RBI while hitting .327 (.998 OPS).
Vientos has hit a rough patch this year, but he has fared well in recent days. Since July 10 (12 games), Vientos has hit .301 (.760 OPS). He has posted hits in 10 of 12 games, including each of his last six.
Mets fans and analysts offered their opinions on Vientos.
The Mets have already been busy at the deadline, adding left-handed relief pitcher Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles. But they certainly could be doing more work.
Martino reported that the Mets are still seeking relief pitchers and perhaps a starting pitcher, such as Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have established themselves as sellers at this year's deadline.
New York is 62-44 this year, sitting first in the NL East by a game-and-a-half over the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets are all-in on shooting for the team's first World Series title, especially after a seven-game win streak that's vaulted them into first.
We'll find out soon if Vientos will be part of that late-season run, but for now, he's sticking around as New York continues its West Coast swing against the San Diego Padres on Monday.
